The Currie Antirock operates a bit like a cantilever system and will push the wheel down when needed but will also give the flex needed when climbing over obstacles. Since these were installed I find that I’m no longer balancing with one or two wheels off the ground going over high obstacles so I’m really happy with the performance.

Comms:

I did a lot of research into which radio I would install and I was fairly lucky in that I have a radio expert who lives right next door. One of the key factors for me was where it was manufactured and its ability to be repaired should it break. I went for the iCom 450 which is an 80 channel UHF radio with all the controls in the handset. I installed this and the antennas myself as the unit was easy to mount under the seat and by purchasing a Teraflex antenna mount I was able to install the antenna next to the spare tyre at the rear of the vehicle. Given that the top of the Wrangler isn’t metal there wasn’t going to be an issue with metal interference by having it at the back of the vehicle.

I also installed an internal speaker for the UHF radio to make it easier for me to hear and mounted this near the pillar on the driver side. This has made it much better to control the direction, making it easier for me to pick up conversations rather than having the small speaker on the handset, which I found difficult to hear.

Lights:

I’ve recently installed new headlights as the original ones were quite poor compared to modern vehicles. The new lights are JW Speaker LED Dual Burn J2 series which combines both high and low beam when high beam is on. This gives much better visibility at night and also provides daytime running lights.

I installed new LED tail lights made by JW Speaker after one of the original tail lights was broken just two days after I had the vehicle. Jeep for some reason install the soft-top inside the vehicle and to get it out you have to remove the hard top. My neighbour helped me remove the hard top but as we were lifting it to put it back on ‘he jingled, I jangled’ and the corner of the hard top took out the tail light! The new tail lights were easy to install as they’re plug and play and l really enjoy the look of them compared to the original tail lights so while it wasn’t a planned upgrade I’m happy with the result
