EXCEED March/April 2018 Vol 35 No:2 | Page 36

One of those that went into town remembered to take his sand flag off which is always a good idea but he forgot to take the car out of four wheel drive and by the time he went into town and back out to camp he had major wind up on his diff etc. and could no longer go out on the dunes at all. This meant him having to call RACV and get them to pick his car and van up and get them all home on the Monday night. Lucky they were in RACV, worth every cent, never leave home without them. I’m sure that particular member who will remain nameless is glad he had joined.

Everyone had mastered the art of sand driving so the group went on longer drives like down to beach number three and the wall, which we don’t always get to. Beach number one was inaccessible as this is normal for this time of year, but we were still able to show everyone and walk down the last little bit. Russell was also able to show everyone both ends of the dune buggy clubs end of dunes which again not always able to do with a bigger group.

Most of us were all down there at the campsite on the Thursday night which was great. The few that came to make up the group were all there by Friday afternoon and some went out for a quick trip before sundown.

The group this year was smaller than other years as we had quite a few drop out very last minute due to the dreaded flu. Bad for them good for us as it made a smaller group out on the dunes as well.

Russell took all the newbies out on the dunes to show them how to drive up and down the dunes on the practice hills. The others who had been before had some practice to find their sand legs again. All were feeling quite confident with their new found skills.

The sand was particularly soft this year due to the rain. But all drivers did very well adjusting. After this, back to camp for lunch before a drive on the dunes in the afternoon.

Lunch done and dusted, all those that wanted to go driving’s did so, others went into town for forgotten items or just a look around.
