Peter , the founder , started this as a retirement but has developed into a full time business and is based in Botswana . Dave walked some 1800 klms as a protest against rhino poaching . Over 250 Aussies have enjoyed their trip . Gave a rundown in the safety of travel in the area . Camping near animals is safe as the are habituated to humans . Common sense prevails . Children need to be of an age where they understand . Botswana and Namibia are the destinations . Ran a video of the self drive adventure . Barry , check you connection ! Best time is April to August in the dry season . Busiest time is July-August . Highlighted on a nap the best places to travel . Vehicles are Ford Rangers / land cruisers hired through Avis which are completely set-up . Driving conditions vary significantly . Driving on the left like Australia . All fully catered . Campsites are varied and unfenced with animals wandering through foraging for food . Food and drink is similar to what you get here . Whilst not as many stores , catering is not a problem .
Alcohol is cheap . Fuel is included . No visas required . Zimbabwe visa is US $ 35 . Tour cost is between $ 7k to $ 7.5k . Minimum 5 cars required . 31 day tour is the most popular and costs $ 11k per person . Books out 12 months in advance . Peter from the Yarra Valley FWDC did a 40 + day trip and guava rundown on their journey . Commented that the monkeys cause the most grief . Tour organizers were great and could not have been happier . Only 4 nights where amenities were not available . These are spread out . Water is not an issue . Internet access was available say two nights per week . Cabling is probably more advanced in their bush than our outback .
