I arrived at the Black Spur Inn to find the doors still locked, had a power nap in the 4x4 until woken by
noises and vehicles, went inside and meet Tony who was organising the day’s activities. But first things first
“Coffee” I ordered coffee and some breakfast, there were a few others that had ordered so we all sat together
and it wasn’t long before the food arrived in the meantime there were maps being looked at various tables.
Having finished our breakfast Tony called everyone outside onto the veranda for the introductions and he
explained about the trips, it was pointed out that each trip had a sheet to fill in if you wanted to go on that
day trip.
After the talking there was quite a bit of discussion from the people attending as to which trip they would
like to go, all that sorted out it suggested that all trips should finish in Marysville.
I gathered the people that had put their names on my trip sheet / 5 vehicles 2 members and 3 visitors.
I explained where we were going and that I would lead the trip with Paul as TEC and the 3 visitors in
between. We headed of Marysville to the Big River Rd, we were heading for Mt Terrible Fire Lookout using
Hope Tk to get to the lookout. The roads/tracks were in very good condition and mostly dry. We stopped
when we hit the dirt road and let our tires down explaining to the visitors the reasons why. Everyone has
a UHF radio and contact was kept along the way, it was found that the Nissan DC ute did not have low
range 4WD when we needed a low range to go up some of the track slowly, but we all made it to the top
and found the Fire lookout which has been replaced after the last fires with a very nice new building, tank
and outdoor tables.
We took advantage of the tables etc and had lunch while admiring the view.
Lunch completed we headed of down Donalds Tk to the Big River Rd and then headed back to Marysville
arriving at 4-25pm just as the Bakery was cleaning up ready to close, no other groups were there so we
ordered a coffee and cake and consumed them outside at one of the tables. Saying our goodbyes we all
headed of home.
As trip leader I would like to thank my TEC and all the visitors for an enjoyable day trip.
