PRESIDENT’S REPORT

July 2019

Thank you to those who have renewed their membership of the Club. Some initial notifications appear to have gone astray for which we apologise. However, further notices have been sent out with more renewals flowing back to our acting membership secretaries.

Notification of the annual general meeting on 21st August has been posted and all members are welcome. Our Rules are available on TeamApp or from the Secretary and explain procedures for nominating for the Committee and the handling of proxy votes. The formal meeting will finish shortly after voting and then be followed by supper.

The Rules and Policies sub-committee continue to review and rewrite our Policies for consideration by the Committee. All members who wish to comment on any new policies before they are finalised should be doing so now.

Our vice-president Sarah Harvey resigned last month as she moves to Sydney for her work. Terry Barbie volunteered to fill the vice-president role until the annual general meeting and is nominating for VP for 2019-20. Thank you to Sarah for your contribution to the Club, and to Terry for your willingness to fill this position.

Club financial accounts are being audited now ahead of the AGM. The Committee’s decision to pay the Four-Wheel Drive Victoria fee at the end of the 2018-19 financial year (rather than in 2019-20) accentuates the deficit for last year but sets us up going forward to have one and only one of these payments in each financial year. The Committee continues to work towards a balanced budget so that recurrent expenses do not exceed our revenue.

The Pajero Challenge is scheduled for 8-9 February 2020 and the organising team will announce a back-up date in case fires or floods cause a postponement. Simon and Liz Garraway have undertaken to be co-ordinators for the Challenge, and Russell Chatfield will act in this role when Simon and Liz are unavailable.

The POTY Award (Person of the Year) finishes at the end of July with the winner for 2019 being announced at our AGM. Thanks to Ralph Longley for managing the POTY points this year. We also acknowledge another Past President Paul Hicks on his 10-year membership milestone. And consider this early notification that we will soon be calling for nominations for the Ironbark Award for 2019.

A reminder for anyone joining a trip through Winter, and especially leaders—many tracks are closed until late Spring and it is your responsibility to know which they are and not to drive on them. If in doubt, ask.
