EXCEED July/August 2018 Vol 35 No:4 | Page 58

No-one else decided to attempt the climb and we again turned around to head back to the Walhalla Road, only to find that slippery clay section also had a large root with a hole in front of it and this brought Steve to a halt only to find the clay wouldn’t let him go forward again. This resulted in some axe and shovel work and a final winch, but that meant everyone else got through without a problem.

With time ticking we returned to the Walhalla Road and followed this until the Mt Selma Road which took us to the summit of Mt Selma. Snow started to appear at about 1100m and there was a complete cover in the last few kilometres.

After lunch Prasad, Erandi & Oliver said farewell and the rest of us headed along the Morning Star Track which was uneventful other than for the need to clear a fallen tree. We then followed Frenchman’s Spur track, again uneventful other than for another fallen tree. Both trees cleared without concern by Michael.

At approximately 6pm we arrived at the Wood’s Point Road and reinflated tyres with the use of torches. Our president showed his true loyalty when suggesting I should clean the Richmond sticker on the back of my car but was not concerned about the club sticker!

It was a great trip that promised and delivered snow as well several challenges that made sure we had an interesting and entertaining day that everyone enjoyed.

On the summit there was some snowplay (insert photos Mt Selma #4,5,6 & 7 as space allows) but conditions meant we only stayed for about 15 minutes before heading to Woods Point for lunch at about 3.00pm in the JH Scott Reserve.
