Trip Report Mount Selma - There Might Will Be Snow

Date : Sunday 30 June 2018

Trip Reports

The advance promotion that suggested there may be snow became a firm promise a few days out and snow was delivered!

We were to meet at McDonald’s in Moe at 8:15am with the last to arrive to be bestowed with the honour of writing the trip report - I arrived at 8:05am to find everyone enjoying breakfast.

We headed North to the carpark on the south side of the Thomson Dam wall where we aired down. The wind coming off the dam ensured everyone had their jackets on.

We continued North along the Wahalla Road on the East side of the Thomson Dam which provided some great views across the Dam and surrounding country. At Donnellys Creek Road we dropped down to the Aberfeldy River with the intention of working our way North to the Mt Selma Track, however we were unable to find the start of Comet Spur Track, or at least didn’t want to take a convoy of 9 vehicles through what was thought to be private property so we returned to the Walhalla Road and continued North.

surrounding country.

At the intersection of Walhalla Road with Pluto (black diamond) and O’Keefe (blue square) tracks we again headed East to try and get across to Mt Selma Track. The option for which track was given and a single voice said “take the hard one” and so off down Pluto track we went. The descent to the Aberfeldy River was without incident, although a slippery clay section was noted. Having crossed the River we stopped for a pleasant morning tea in a relatively protected area.

Shortly after morning tea we came to a climb which Sebastian headed up first only to find half way up that traction was not his friend and the winch was required twice to get to the top.
