TRIP REPORTS
was going to be an exploratory trip of the area,
not a lot of planning was required, just needed
to pick a camp site with toilets and enough
area for our group. Decided to try Casuarina as
the first choice. Made a shopping list and
packed the Tvan ready. My wife arranged the
food and as usual added a few things. Thanks
Cathy. The food was fantastic. My chef Fred
commented that we had more than enough.
We left on the Friday morning and met with 3
others at the BP on the Western Hwy in
Rockbank. Picked up a coffee. N sitting down
aloud. Had a good trip up to Warracknabeal
where we stopped for fuel and lunch. Rod
caught up with us while we were having lunch.
Then onto Willa turning left into the national
park to find the camping area. After a couple of
U-turns, we found the camping area. Not many
people there so we had a good selection of
spots to pick from.
Saturday 6 th June
Saturday dawned a clear sky and the sun was
shining. Rod had the fire going by the time I
had made the first pot of coffee. Went over to
say hi to everyone. It was a no rush start as we
did not have to meet Peter until about 1-00pm
on the highway. Made breakfast and sat
around the fire. By the time we had chatted
and cleaned up it was nearly time to leave. We
decided to go out of the NP a different way to
Patchewollock.
Base Camp
It wasn’t long before we were set up and Rod
was getting the camp fire going. We had all
brought a bag of wood from home to get us
started. While driving in to camp we noticed
there was plenty of wood around beside the
tracks as well as some malley roots. Decided
we would get some tomorrow on the way back
to camp. We had dinner and settled in around
the camp fire. Beautiful night, clear sky and a
full moon. We knew it was going to be cold
over night!
Arrived there early enough to have a look
around. The small general store was open.
Most went in and purchased coffee cakes and
various other items. There is a painted Silo
opposite the store, everyone had a look and
