PRESIDENT’S REPORT

January 2019

Our year finished with a break-up meeting with minor business and major socialising. It was a pleasure to be involved in Clubman Awards to Peter Symons and Janine Harron for their exceptional assistance to a colleague during a recent Club trip, and then to present our 2018 Ironbark Award to Alan Sellars for his dedicated service to the Club over many years. Our Christmas-Day-out was organised at Chesterfield Farm in Scoresby by Suzanne Marazzato and Virginia Gilhooly.

I am delighted to report that we have a busy list of trips in early 2019. Some are just going around the corner and yet others will cross the ocean. Understandably it is frustrating for those who try to book on a trip and find it full, and I am sorry to have had to turn Members away at my own trips recently. One solution would be more trips, and this might mean our current trip leaders do more leading; a better and sustainable approach is to introduce more Members to the rewards of running trips. There is a certain pleasure and freedom thinking “and where would I like to lead a trip next weekend?”

Still on trips, the Committee is investigating a system that acknowledges some trips might be closed (i.e. not welcoming extra members) but we would encourage these to still be under Club auspices. In exchange there might be an understanding that each closed trip comes with an expectation that the leaders will run a general trip open to all members soon afterwards.

Two new projects are underway: these are the archiving of our historical data and a review of our Rules and our Bylaws. First point of contact for these are Ralph Longley and Ron Reed, respectively.

The Annual General Meeting of the Pajero Club will be on Wednesday 21st August 2019 so start planning.

Neil Phillips
