SIMPSON DESERT EAST MEETS WEST
22 September 2017 to 1 October 2017
Friday 22 September Melbourne to Burra
First day of the trip was a long drive to Burra. Ed and John and Paddy met up at the BP for an early start. The rest of the group decided to head up a day earlier and enjoy the Murray. After getting to Burra we met up with Peters group at the Burra Hotel for an evening meal and also to win the local meat raffle. Thanks Helmut for picking the right number.
Saturday 23 September Burra to Marree
Early start then we made our way NW via Peterborough, Hawker then we took a de tour through the bottom sections of the Flinders Ranger. Luckily we had Scotty and Pete from SA. Pete is a professional tour director by trade and gave us some insight into the area we were traveling through. We traveled via Blinman then rejoined the main road at Parachilna. Although a diversion it was well worth it. From here we continued on to Farina to have a look at the handy work of Graham Halliburton and the crew of the Farina restoration group. At pleasant night spent at the Drivers Run Caravan park and our hosts Branton and Jo and Drover the dog put on a great night of entertainment. The local Policewoman and her partner showed up with a couple of young joeys the had saved.
