Australia Day 2018 - Day 2 - Saturday Wonnangatta Trip
Under the guidance of Stuart Gay and following completion of the Trip Leaders course, Lyndon Bell lead the convey of 14 vehicles from Eaglevale through to the Wonangatta Station for a bit of history. With 14 and a range of experience levels, We made good progress up Cynthia Range Track and onto Wombat Range Track and then onto the Wonnangatta Track and the Station. There were some minor river crossings which the littlest members of he convey enjoyed and a welcome toilet stop and late morning tea upon arrival at the station.
Amazing history for the Wonnangatta Valley, having been settled early. The sense of isolation was apparent when wandering through the ruins and associated historical information boards and plaque/ etc.
Given the size of the group, we split up at that point with Lyndon leading a small party back to camp along the same route as we headed out on for an earlier 3 pm finish and paddle in the river, with Stuart leading the larger group for more river crossing experiences.
The kids enjoyed, whilst floating in the river, waving to the larger group as they crossed the river and into camp at Eaglevale upon their later arrival around 4:30 or so.
