We may be in lockdown with a curfew and a 10km radius on how far we can go from our homes , but that doesn ’ t mean we can ’ t dream ! New trips are often planned around the campfire of another trip , with advice from experienced members as we enjoy drinks and nibbles . Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has taken this opportunity from us , so we created another opportunity to chat about trips we ’ d like to do .
Our experienced panelists were : Ed Reddick ( Trip & Social Rep ), Ralph Longley , and Peter van Riel . Between them , this team has a long list of trips under their belts .
Each participant came to the campfire with an idea of a trip they would like to run . They described where they wanted to go , and with the help of technology we were all able to view a digital map of the area . The panelists then gave their thoughts and suggestions of things that could improve the trip or challenges that the trip leader might face .
Ideas discussed at the campfire included the Anne Beadell highway , East Gippsland , High Country , Big Red , NSW Corner Country , Tambo Valley , Little Desert , Grampians , and Cobaw ,.
Ed ’ s top tip for running long trips is to make sure you and your car are ready at least a month in advance . If you aren ’ t sure if some of your equipment will make it , change it out beforehand rather than crossing your fingers and running the risk of breakages and breakdowns . Take a spare jerry can ( minimum of 2 in total ) so you ’ re never caught short . Have a
