Trip Summary Exploring the area around Walhalla and Thompsons Dam . The tracks were chosen to give new members an introduction to Pajero Club trips . Distance & Route Meeting at Erica , driving north to Aberfeldy , then back south to finish at Thompsons Dam . We followed suggested routes on the Aberfeldy Track Back Road Tours Guide , including Donnelly ’ s Creek Loop Fuel & Supplies Single tank of fuel . Lunch and snacks brought from home . Difficulty Level / Vehicle Requirements Easy . Some participants needed encouragement for certain segments of the trip but it was all very doable in stock cars with AT tyres . Tips , Notes and Special Remarks This area is either very cold and wet or very warm and sunny ( and dusty ). In classic Gippsland style we had all of these elements in our trip , making for an interesting and enjoyable day .
Trip Detail
Our beginners trip had 3 cars of established Pajero Club members , and 3 cars of new members for whom this was their first trip with the club . We met at Erica and headed north along the main road . We soon turned off towards Walhalla and once we got there we did a slow drive down the main street to check it out . We continued on past the township and aired down once we hit the dirt .
We drove along Walhalla Rd , Binns Rd , Springs Track , and Donnelly ’ s Creek Rd to Store Point Hut . We met some lovely campers who were set up at the hut , but unfortunately while they were out prospecting for gold the park rangers turned up . Just remember folks : unattended and oversized fires are illegal and carry a heavy fine ! We hope that the prospectors struck it rich because they will have several fines to pay for this weekend . After a lovely walk along the river we continued on through several water crossings and more lovely scenery to O ’ Tooles Campground .
