MEMBER TRIP REPORT

Trip Detail
The trip arose during discussions with newer members at the April monthly Club meeting , a mid-week date was chosen , and the trip advertised . After initially being well over-subscribed , illness and clashes of commitments reduced the number and those who missed out are on a priority list for another Tallarook trip . The final group who came had little 4WD experience with the Pajero Club , but all were experienced 4W Drivers from prior times ; this helped on the wet more difficult tracks .
Wednesday 5 th May 2021 We met at the Tallarook General Store at 0800 and were able to buy maps , coffee and chai , and toasted sandwiches . We had a briefing in the Store for introductions , and to talk about the plans for the day , what to expect , and likely routes .
The views of the granite boulder hillsides along Landscape Rd are a spectacular starting leg , and we continued onto Gilmore and Seed tks for an introduction to negotiating larger rocks and some puddles . Once on Main Rd it was not far to 1ARC / Freeman campground to reduce tyre pressures and use the only toilet facility on the plateau , and then to cross the creek which was only just flowing . Late morning was heading northward onto Wheeler tk which was a mix of easy in places and washed out in others before we hit West Falls rd , then Henry Tk and then the start of Brockwell Tk . This track was a little more challenging at its western end and was in the shade so wet and slippery . Then East Falls Rd past Tassie Camp and a walk up to Warragul Rocks . This is a great viewing area northwest towards Avenel and Seymour , north to the Hughes Ck catchment , east to Mt Wombat and Mt Strathbogie , and right along the Goulburn Valley towards Mt Buller . North and down along East Falls Tk to the rock crossing of the nearly dry Falls Ck : this area has become significantly more difficult in recent months and we walked the two options together before meeting the challenge , and the reward of at late and leisurely lunch beside the tranquil Trawool Reservoir .
After lunch if was the climb up the rutted West Falls Tk , and easy drive to Main Rd and some final 4WDriving up Magazine Tk to the Mt Hickey summit and fire tower , down Cadell Tk and goodbyes before we headed homeward .
