President ’ s Report

April 2021

The month of April brought us many new trips , new trip leaders and our long-awaited Muster , a steady influx of new members and committee endorsement of incentives to encourage new Trip Leaders . The club has also received an invitation to host a stand at the National 4x4 Show in August – life is returning to normal
The muster was due last year , however COVID-19 meant it had to be delayed . This Muster was my first and I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed vibe and a choice of trips as did well over 100 members . The Muster , enjoyed by so many , was a result of a team of people led by our tireless Trip & Social member – Ed Reddick . Ed started shaping up his plans from the 2020 Christmas party . Shortly after that event , on January 3 rd Ed did a ‘ recce ’ to Tolmie , checking if it would be a suitable site . There was no question in my mind that Ed made the right decision .
Ed led a team of many people to build up a great mix of trips , a nice meal and questionable Show & Shine ( wink ) awards with Dave Howard as the awards Judge . It was also pleasing to see a few Rookie Trip Leaders too :
Muster Trip Leaders Helen Mandziejewski – Rookie Dani & Mitch Watkins – Rookies Rob Dickson – Rookie Adam Risborg – Rookie Andrew Papalaskaris & Jeannie Young – Rookies Peter Symons & Janine Harron Paul & Sue Harris Peter Van Riel Sean Whittaker Fred Farrugia Barry Walker
Muster Volunteers Robyn Burke Heidi Smith Colin Hopwood Peter Thomas Kerry Mercuri Janine Harron Virginia Gilhooly The Easter Bunny
You may notice in the Trip Leaders recognitions above I have added if the member is a ‘ Rookie ’. This is quite deliberate - read on for why .
To encourage new Trip Leaders , I ’ m pleased to announce that starting this May , we ’ re introducing incentives for Rookie Trip Leaders . At each monthly meeting , Rookie Trip Leaders are automatically entered to a draw for a $ 100 or a $ 50 fuel voucher . There are two ways you can qualify for the draw :
1 . Complete the Driver Training Unit Trip Planning course then lead three trips and submit a Trip Report for each trip . 2 . If you don ’ t attend the Trip Planning course , you need to lead five trips and submit a Trip Report for each trip .
It just so happens there ’ s another free Trip Planning course on May 11 th . Spend a little time learning how to safely lead a trip and your fuel bill could benefit . What are you waiting for ?
