Trip Detail
Day 1 – Saturday 27 th February
Traffic was very light in the early hours of Saturday which resulted in an early arrival at the meeting point . Everyone arrived in good time and there was much relief from everyone that we were able to get away after we all endured restrictions on travel and socialising . After a quick briefing , we headed out along the freeway and it was pretty much bitumen all the way to Heyfield ; with a drive along the base of the power station thrown in by Google maps .
After topping up fuel at Heyfield ; we formed a convoy again and took in some back streets within the Heyfield township . Yes , that ’ s code for making the wrong turn , but we finally found our way to a direct route to the southern side of the Avon Wilderness . Our first bit of dirt was Kentucky Rd where we aired down and had our morning tea .
Once we dissected our way through Hedric Scenic Reserve , we turned right onto Mount Angus Track to drive the beginning of a loop in an anti-clockwise direction . The drive wasn ’ t difficult , but with occasional rocky sections and steep sections to make the whole journey interesting . There was a sense of serenity in the area even though population wasn ’ t too far away .
