MEMBER TRIP REPORT

The Trestle bridge near Rubicon Power station .
From Quartz Creek Road we drove to the Trestle Bridge . Along this route I confirmed Royston Road to the Rubicon Camping area was temporarily closed , as I had been advised before this trip , so I tried the Rubicon River Road hoping it would be open as a detour , but that remains firmly closed . I headed back to Browns Road , joined No . 5 Track then Snobs Creek Road .
Further along Snobs Creek Road I decided to turn left and explore Hobin Gap Road . The Rooftop ’ s map shows this road linked back to Royston Range track . Hobin ’ s Gap Road was an interesting drive with some steep sections and large , flat rocky areas . The rocks were almost flat and made-up parts of the track , making those sections an easy drive . At the end of Hobin Gap Road the track becomes Royston Range Track and becomes ‘ interesting ’. Royston Range Track closed in very fast – it was overgrown . The saving grace was the trees were young with green growth and combined with the rain , reduced the friction against the car paintwork . Once you ’ re on a track like this it ’ s difficult if not impossible to turn around , so I persisted . This track also had an abandoned older model Prado dumped on it that was pretty worse for wear . I won ’ t do that track again !
