Previously I’ve used chainsaws in the course of my work. And personally for the removal/felling and pruning of trees and for the preparation and collection of firewood. I had training in my university degree (Bachelor of Applied Science (Horticulture)) and some industry experience with an arborist. I didn’t prepare much for the course as such, other than to check my existing equipment and replace/update a couple of items. I learnt a few terms I wasn’t familiar with but the big thing was practising better technique in handling the saw. I had operated previously with a high degree of safety awareness but this was also improved with the revision of the course content. What stood out about the course? I don’t think there was anything that stood out other than perhaps Ollie and Guy ripping into each other for sport! Anyone who hasn’t done this course and has used a chainsaw, or is thinking about using one should do it without hesitation. There will be plenty more work to do, so no chance of the saws gathering dust.
