Offroad Features
Unlike the Pajero, the Pajero sport construction is based on a body on frame build. Suspension is independent all
round with a live axle at the rear. The tried and tested Mitsubishi Super Select II 4WD system continues its heritage
in this vehicle. Settings don’t happened automatically like in other sophisticated systems. Super Select II requires
the driver to have knowledge vehicle off road dynamics. There are 4 settings very easily operated by a rotatory
dial.
2H (4WD High Range) For normal road conditions.
4HLC (4WD High Range with locked centre differential). For rugged terrain with low-grip surfaces.
4H (Full Time 4WD). For rough roads and hazardous conditions.
4LLC (4WD Low Range with locked centre differential). For steep hills, sand, deep snow, etc.
In addition to the above, there are selectable off road modes (Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand and Rock) for different
terrain. Each mode optimises engine output, transmission settings, and braking for the best traction. A rear
differential locker is available on the GLS and Exceed variants. When the rear diff locker is engaged, traction
control is disabled on all four wheels. It would have been nice to have traction control active on the front wheels.
So, the effectiveness of the rear diff locker over traction control is questionable and may depend on the situation
the vehicle on the terrain.
Body Construction and Suspension
The Pajero Sport has a Ladder Frame on body construction where the chassis (Ladder Frame) is separate from the
body. The Pajero on the other hand, has a monologue body where the chassis is integrated to the body. The Pajero
Sport inherits its construction design from the Triton which it shares the same platform.
The Sport has independent suspension all round with a live axle at the rear. This should provide good suspension
flexibility and wheel travel at the rear.
