President ’ s Report

June 2021

The month of June , the start winter , brought conditions from one extreme to the other - damaging storms one day and idyllic snow for the kids the next . Quite the mix of weather and emotions to go with the coldest time of year . The next couple of months will be busy . The committee is planning for an August AGM and we ’ re hosting our Club at a stand during the upcoming National 4x4 Show .
Despite the cold weather , the Club was still actively running trips and participated in volunteer events to help people cope with storm damage . My thanks to Tony Jambu , our 4WD Victoria Delegate , for initiating those conversations which resulted in those volunteer events .
AGM Winter also means the Committee has started planning for our AGM , so stay tuned for notifications in the next few weeks . I ’ m hoping we don ’ t experience more lockdowns which could result in the Club extensively utilising alternative voting means the way we had to last year .
Membership Renewals If you haven ’ t already , you should have renewed your membership . Members that haven ’ t renewed have been contacted by our hard-working Membership Secretary . Non-financial members will no longer be receiving emails from our Wild Apricot membership system . If you know a fellow member that has simply forgotten to renew , perhaps remind them of the fun times we have as a Club that they will miss out on . We also have options for people that may need assistance with fees , via confidential help .
Seasonal Track Closures 2021 The 2021 seasonal tracks closure period has started . Some areas and their tracks will be closed for an extended time this year due to the recent severe storms . It simply isn ’ t safe in many areas , where trees are still falling after being weakened by the storms . I recently saw a video of a SES vehicle that had a tree fall on it . SES volunteers have risked their lives to help people in need . Let ’ s respect the selfless work of all Emergency Services people and comply with their recommendations . If one area remains closed you can contact one of our many seasoned members for advice on other areas that are just as nice to travel . For official road and track closure information , go to the Parks Victoria or 4WD Victoria websites .
Mt Skene Permit System Thanks to 4WD Victoria , the Mt Skene Track Driving Permit system is operating again this year . Contact 4WD Victoria if you ’ d like to experience a 4WD trip to the snow and maybe post it as a Club trip . Your trip could count towards winning a fuel voucher .
National 4x4 Show , August 20 th – 22nd The Club will be hosting a site at the show this year . I ’ m calling for Members that would like to help with this event . The show runs from Friday 20 th August to Sunday 22 nd August . I ’ ll be there and have had members volunteer to help on different days , so we can be at the stand to answer queries about the Club . These events are valuable – we often see people that first met us at these shows become members .
Stay warm and I hope to see you on a trip soon .
