MEMBER TRIP REPORT

We had beautiful sunny days and our two-day early entry gave us all a chance to relax , explore and catch up . Our evenings saw us gathered by the fire , with a delicious gala meal together Monday night , this did however highlight that some of us camping newbies have a thing or two to learn about camp cooking . Dinner had 3 types of roast meat along with all the trimmings followed by dessert .
A few in our group made sure to be up early to hear the bagpipes play on top of big red as the sun rose , some joining him up there and others simply enjoying it from camp . Two of us ventured up big red to start our days with yoga while others simply took their time and enjoyed the lack of alarm . Those in our group without little ones present enjoyed a leisurely ( I can only assume ) walk over the dunes and back , with no one insisting they be picked up .
Tuesday the music kicked off and it was great to see some eager beavers queueing up hours before the gates opened . We , however , took our time , or waited for naps to end while happily listening from camp . If I ’ m being totally honest , most of the artists were not on my most played Spotify list , however ; we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves , the two little girls showed off some seriously excellent dance moves ( if it were a competition , it hands down goes to Heidi !), and good times were had by all . We chose our favourites to head into the mosh pit ( little ones with earmuffs on of course !) or otherwise jumped up to dance where we were .
The composting toilets were not as odour free as I ’ d been led to believe but served their purpose . The food vendors were many and varied , we all seemed to agree the fresh juice and cinnamon donuts were excellent , as were the Nutella empanadas . Oh sure and also some vegies wraps were quite good … The facilities and services set up were reassuring and only one member of our group needed to visit the medical tent . Heidi ’ s enthusiastic dancing saw her cop an eyeful of sand ; she was promptly seen ; had it flushed and was napping before too long .
I can ’ t forget the drag race ! I can almost proudly say that all the men in our group participated . And they looked fabulous . They smiled and laughed as they walked and skipped the track together , even got up on stage to strut and dance . The following morning , we set out to smash a Guinness world record , and we did , with the most number of people dancing the Nutbush . We didn ’ t quite make it with the record for the twist , but there ’ s always next year . I can happily report that the race and record attempts raised more than $ 100,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service .
We had a fantastic experience , good music , good food , good company and its highly recommend . Big Red Bash gets a 10 / 10 from us .
Day 14 – 9 July 2021 The trip ended with the end of the Bash . The tip participants headed in different directions , some home some onto more adventures . We had a fantastic trip and that can be largely attributed to our fellow club members who ensured that the trip was as enjoyable as possible .
We must thank Peter & Janine for all their work to pull the two groups together and ensure that the two trips could combine for the Bash .
