MEMBER TRIP REPORT

onto the Wirrealpa Rd . A shaded creek bed provided a nice spot for lunch . An uneventful trip saw us arriving in Arkaroola at 4:15pm .
On 30 June we packed up , fuelled up and left Arkaroola on the 460km trip to Innamincka . The Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park looked spectacular as we wound our way alongside the park and onto Mount Hopeless Road . At Mount Hopeless we joined the Strezlecki Track which was wide and in good condition . We stopped for lunch at Strezlecki Creek . Just before 5pm we rolled into Innamincka and found ourselves a camping spot on the Common beside the Cooper Creek .
1 July was an easy day in Innamincka . A quite morning in camp and then some exploration of the Burke & Wills Expedition history in the Area . First up was a visit to the place where John King was found living with the indigenous people on 15th September 1861 . King was the only survivor of the four man party that left the Dig Tree and reached the Gulf of Carpentaria . We continued to Wills ’ grave before heading back to Innamincka and Burke ’ s Memorial . Covid and border restrictions stopped us venturing across the border to see the Dig Tree . Dinner at the Innamincka Pub rounded out a great day .
Day 7 – 2 July & Day 8 – 3 July Jenny & Adrian Castangnini - 1177
On 2 July we left Innamincka for our next destination , Betoota .
Being a long drive we stopped at a roadside shelter for lunch and a break . The roads were not too bad to drive along despite the short intervals of heavy corrugations . On the way Mitch surprised us with a stop at Haddons Corner , a unique location where the corner of South Australia and Queensland meet . An ideal photo opportunity .
