A chair of the UK ’ s Association of Event Organisers ( AEO ) for 2024 / 2025 , my focus will be on future-proofing the AEO for the next generation . The events industry is evolving rapidly , and it ’ s crucial that we , as an association , stay ahead of these changes , remain relevant , and continue to deliver value to our members and the wider industry . To achieve this , I will build on the AEO ’ s four core pillars : Representation , Community , Talent , and Insight . These foundations have underpinned the association successfully for many years , and we want to build on these to be impactful in our actions not only for our members but across the entire events industry .

In the last five years , representation has become one of the key pillars , with the AEO playing a vital role in advocating for the interests of event organisers , both in the UK and globally . We will build on this to ensure that our advocacy efforts drive meaningful change , ensuring

A strong , connected community is essential to the events industry . This is a sector that thrives on communication and collaboration and , as chair , I will ensure that these values remain central to the AEO . We will be working on enhancing our communications and digital platforms , to both meet the needs of the association ’ s role in fostering these connections and to make it easy for both members and non-members to engage with our resources and networks .
Talent development is another crucial priority . The events industry depends on a skilled and adaptable workforce , and it ’ s vital that we continue to invest in developing this at all levels . I will be exploring new ways to support emerging talent and established professionals , throughout their career in events .
Finally , the last pillar is insight . The AEO has long provided valuable industry data and research , but there is room to expand this offering and membership engagement . By adopting a more proactive , data-driven approach , we will ensure that members and the wider industry are fully informed of the resources , insights , and opportunities available to them . We must work smarter and be more precise in delivering information that sets us up for growth and success within the industry .
I am excited for the future of the AEO and the broader events community . By focusing on these key pillars : Representation , Community , Talent , and Insight – we can ensure that the AEO continues to thrive , not only for today but in the future . EW www . exhibitionworld . co . uk Issue 5 2024 15
