Going for gold: Fiera Milano in training to benefit from Winter Olympic legacy

Paul Colston talks finances, Winter Olympics and sustainability with Fiera Milano president Carlo Bonomi
EW: How was the year 2025 for the Fiera’ s business in terms of financial results and international trade fair business? Last year confirmed a very solid and structural growth path for Fiera Milano. Since 2020, the Group has almost quadrupled its revenues. Forecasts for 2025 have been revised upwards, confirming the strength of the model.
The market has also recognised this trend: in the last two years, the stock market value has almost tripled, reaching € 8 per share, with a capitalisation of over € 575m. International business has taken on an increasingly strategic role, contributing to the diversification of revenues.
EW: Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics: how will the event affect Fiera Milano? The Olympic and Paralympic Games represent an extraordinary opportunity. We will host sports competitions in the Live Dome at the Fiera Milano exhibition centre, while we will welcome the official Media Centre for the Games to our Allianz MiCo conference centre. This strengthens our position as a platform for major global events and accelerates the evolution of the exhibition centre as a multifunctional hub. I believe this is the first time in the history of the Winter Olympics that some sporting competitions will be held inside exhibition halls.

EW: Has preparing for this Olympic event been costly? What legacy can you mention? Infrastructure investments are supported by Fondazione Fiera Milano and do not weigh on the company ' s balance sheet. The legacy includes permanent structures, new organisational skills and the opening up of new market segments, particularly those related to large-scale sporting, cultural and entertainment events, which will continue to generate value even beyond Milano Cortina 2026.
EW: What do you regard as the biggest successes event-wise and what innovations have made a difference? Our main achievements relate to the strengthening of our leading exhibitions and the evolution of our business model. We are no longer just a traditional exhibition operator: we have expanded our offering to include conferences, major events, sports and entertainment.
Innovation has involved digital services, data management, logistics, sustainability and more flexible exhibition formats, significantly improving the experience for exhibitors, organisers and visitors.
