St. Johns TDC Discusses‘ 5 SEASONS’ CONCEPT FOR TOURISM PROMOTION
The traditional calendar has four seasons – winter, spring, summer and fall – but the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council is looking at the possibility of adding a fifth. At a recent TDC meeting, member Irving Kass brought up the concept of five tourist seasons to more effectively market the county as a destination.
“ As you know, I’ ve been talking about this subject probably off and on for 20 years. How do we stabilize occupancy year round so we don’ t put all our eggs in the proverbial Nights of Lights basket and just hope that turns out great and we can save the year,” he said, referring to the annual holiday event that is a major tourism driver.“ That’ s an awfully stressful way to run tourism.”
