The Life Changing Impact of the West Augustine Health and Wellness Center

In 2010, Greg White founded the West Augustine Historical Community Development Corporation( CDC) with a clear goal: to build lasting infrastructure and deliver resources to a historically neglected part of one of Florida’ s wealthiest counties. Fifteen years later, that mission is taking physical shape in the West Augustine Health and Wellness Center— a 14,000-square-foot, $ 8 million facility bringing healthcare equity to a community long overlooked.
“ Even though St. Johns County for 11 consecutive years was rated the healthiest county in the entire 67 counties of Florida,” White said.“ We have this pocket that wasn ' t the beneficiary of it. The infant mortality rate in this underserved area is four times greater than any other ethnic group in the county.”
For decades, emergency rooms served as the only medical option for many residents.“ There was no such thing as wellness because everything was reactive,” White added. The West Augustine Health and Wellness Center is changing that narrative.
