Journeys begin and end at airports. Whether for pleasure or business, the flying public is exploring the world as never before, positioning themselves squarely in the midst of bustling terminals and gateways. Before our eyes, the aviation industry is satisfying passengers by investing in infrastructure that is stimulating an economic upsurge.

There are 125 airports in Florida that generate $ 336 billion annually for the state’ s economy, supporting employment, enhancing connectivity and positioning communities for future growth. Three are located here in North Central Florida, so let’ s take a closer look, beginning our journey in Daytona Beach.
According to Airport Director, Karen Feaster and Marketing Manager, Joanne Magley, the Daytona Beach International Airport( DAB) ranks in the top five of Florida’ s busiest airports. In 2025, 772,000 passengers traveled through the airport, up 1 % from 2024. Local flight training programs also contribute to runway traffic, and this year, Avelo, Breeze and JetBlue Airways joined the DAB family, adding nine new nonstop flights to the east coast.
A $ 5.9 million runway upgrade was recently completed at DAB, designed to enhance safety during aircraft operations. The project was critically important to maintaining a certification that allows the airport to offer commercial service. Additionally, a striking
$ 14 million terminal transformation now welcomes travelers, featuring new counters, flooring, LED digital walls and more power outlets at seats. An upgraded common-use technology system allows multiple airlines to control

“ DAB needs to continually invest in infrastructure to not only keep up with repairs and improvements but to keep up day to day with the latest in technology and customer service amenities for the travelling public.” Magley said.
Funding resources for infrastructure projects include the Federal Aviation Administration( FAA) and Florida Department of Transportation( FDOT), Joanne Magley along with local grants.
Traveling north to the Flagler Executive Airport( KFIN), we land at an airfield that greeted 190,000 private plane and pilot training flights last year. Over decades, KFIN has invested $ 61 million in infrastructure improvements to two runways and nine taxiways. And now an elaborate 15,500-square-foot General Aviation Terminal will open this year, housing administration offices and the county-operated Fixed Based Operator that provides fuel services on site.
