course at his second attempt with his
Olympic partner La Biosthetique - Sam
FBW.
The pair then went on to obviously
win the competition, but more about
that later. As it turns out Michael’s injury
was far worse than he was letting on, and
he announced on social media after the
European Championships that he broke
a “little piece off his shin” above his right
ankle... not just your average injury then!
Watching Michael and Sam’s cross
country and show jumping rounds at
Burghley you would not have known
there was even the possibility of an
injury, the pair showed their customary
fluidity and talent that we have come to
expect, and certainly didn’t look like they
were ever touching a pole on the final
day to clinch Jung’s first ever Burghley
title on his very first attempt.
The event itself was full of twists and

phenomenal cross country track which
was reversed for the first time in 55

“big”, and when even the world’s most
elite four star campaigners are telling
you they are worried, when Andrew
Hoy and William Fox-Pitt tell you it’s the
biggest course they have seen in their
careers, you start to feel a little sick, both
as a journalist and as a passionate lover
of the sport.
As is well documented, it was all
change to the leader board after the
incredible cross country display that
we were treated to on the Saturday,
and although it is most unpartisan of
a journalist for a UK magazine, I was
delighted to see husband and wife team
Tim & Jonelle Price up there in second
and third place after their incredible
cross country displays. Hint: If you want
to see two of the most talented eventers
cross the country, then look no further
than these two. They make it look simply
effortless and always stylish whilst
