BRITISH DRESSAGE REPORT 2016 Squad Selection for Junior and Young Riders Written by Daisy Jackson I n preparation for the beginning of the 2016 Junior and Young Rider season,the selectors, along with judge, Jo Graham, observed more than 45 riders vying for a position on the squads during the viewing day in September this year. 25 combinations performed their team test and a further 22 riders attended the viewing day on foot. The squads have now been divided into 4 groups from ‘prime’ to ‘ones to watch’. All riders are hoping for the chance to compete internationally and ultimately to be selected for the European Championships 2016 which will be held in Spain. The programme is funded by Sport England and runs for 2 years for each selected rider, however, riders can be reselected if both the programme and athlete are continuing to benefit from the support. Casa (pictured) is 14 and is by Cassander Elite out of a Rubenstien mare, and is a British Warmblood, bought by us from Claire Speer in August of this year after she had very kindly allowed me to ride and compete with for the previous 18 months. My aim with him is to carry on competing and improving at Advanced Medium/ PSG, as well as competing at premier leagues and high profile shows at Junior and Young Rider level . I intend to make the most of my last year's run in Juniors and prepare for my move up Young Riders at the end of 2016. My past achievements with Casa include coming second at Hickstead CDI in the Junior Team Test, second at the Regional Championships, and 6th at the National Dressage Championships at Advanced Medium”. Troy is a 14 year old Irish Sports Horse by Master Imp who was previously competed by Amanda Goldsbury. We bought him in July 2015 and I have competed him up to Advanced Medium. My future plans with Troy include continuing to compete him at Advanced Medium locally and possibly some premier leagues and high profile shows with him at Junior level and hopefully Young Riders at the end of 2016.
