SPONSORED RIDERS TEAM UPDATE Stephen Hayes, Steph Gumn and Daisy Jackson ‘ Steph Gumn So, the horse search continues! I feel like I have viewed more adverts this week than ever! How hard can it be to find two horses? Very, apparently. They say good things come to those who wait, so I am hoping patience will pay off. I am booked to fly to Belgium again on the 10th for a couple more days searching. My aim is to try and source a quality 3 and 4 year old to produce. Hopefully will be able to keep one and the other will be sold to help take my business forward as I am not yet at the stage where I can afford to keep a few good ones! I have been pushing myself to coach more whilst I am horseless Image: Steph competing Marty, another successful horse that was produced and sold on from LF Equestrian and to get my UKCC level 2 completed before September next year. I have had some lovely clients who are already noticing a big difference in confidence and their horses. I have also had some really rewarding horses in for schooling who are due to return back to their owners. One in particular has been rewarding as I was able to watch his owner not only ride him confidently, but also watch her first jump in years on him. My work is rewarding! It's also officially time to be allowed to feel excited about Christmas, so, enjoy! Steph Stephen Hayes Florida we are coming for you! So it's finally the countdown to Florida, we are packing like crazy trying to get everything organised for the move down to Jupiter Florida. And the packing is not only for the horses! Im not so much a fan of packing, I'm thinking I'll probably throw a pile of summer clothes in a suitcase the night before the drive as I seem to be last minute every year. My horses are feeling great, they've had their massage therapist out this month, their dentist, and a brand new set of shoes all ready to rock and roll for their trip. Work wise they have been taking it easy this month as the Florida season is going to be their showing season or boot camp as Wellington is filled with clinics, master classes and demos too. The plan is for the team to start the 2 day drive for Florida with most of the yard equipment at the end of month in our huge truck and trailer; the horses will leave shortly after. It's going to be a very busy December but I'll be sure to keep up to date with everything. So here's to safe travels, and a happy Thanksgiving, (still getting used to the American way of life). Have a great December and a lovely Christmas to all the Everything Horse UK readers! 50 Everything Horse UK • Issue 27• December 2015 Daisy Jackson I am absolutely thrilled with the progression both Tango (Furst Larkshill) and Blackberry (Premier Into The Black) have demonstrated within the last month. Huge improvements have been made within their training and both Nicky Barrett and Gareth Hughes are pleased with the progress being made. After qualifying Tango for both the Medium Open and Advanced Medium Restricted Regional Championships I can now concentrate on his PSG work at home. This month I was fortunate enough to have two ‘boot camp’ training weekends at Nicky Barrett’s where Tango and I have 3 lessons and stay overnight. This is such a fantastic opportunity as consistency is a vital part of training a horse and especially at the level we are working towards. We have been able to work on increasing the collection and therefore expression in the trot in order to gain more marks at competitions. We are also doing lots of work on flying changes to get the tempi-changes and also developing some of the movements needed for Grand Prix, the piaffe and passage. In the canter work the onus is on true balance and self carriage so that his tempis become much more rideable and therefore running through PSG tests will be easier. With Blackberry I have been working towards Advanced Medium level. She has almost completed her first season at Medium which she won at our 3rd and 4th attempt. I was over the moon with her results. We had to warm up at a new venue under flood lights as our classes were late in the day. I am still aiming to give her as much experience at new venues as possible as she still gets tense when entering a new arena for the first time although December 2015 • Issue 27 • Everything Horse UK this has improved greatly. Blackberry has been with me for a year now and we have made good progress together. We understand each other and I absolutely love training her. She is a very giving horse and tries so hard. . 51
