Vintage Country
Birthday Celebration
by: Cupcake Wishes & Birthday Dreams
W
hat an amazing journey of life to be able to reach your 70th birthday! Our family had the honor of hosting a birthday celebration
for my Mother-In-Law. As a nod to her growing up in the rural south
and her love for cooking baking, I chose to work with a vintage style
country kitchen feel.
Inspired by a floral patterned placemat and napkins purchased from
Ikea, I worked with a pastel pink, green and white color scheme. Our
dinner was going to be very informal so, the goal was to go simple with
the place setting. I covered the table with a lace overlay and only placed
gold chargers onto the table topped with a napkin and tableware. Then
I decorated the length of the table by shopping my party stash. I set out
small ceramic birds and created groupings of florals, by placing small
bunches of flowers in beaded glass jars.
Four our dessert station, I placed copper molds on the wall to create
some visual interest and a backdrop. My husband made her favorite yellow cake with chocolate buttercream that I topped with a paper topper.
The buffet was also decorated with a small banner to coordinate with the
color scheme.
We welcomed a host of relatives for our dinner. My mother-in law was
surrounded by her, great grand-children, grand-children, nieces, sisters
and her three sons! The most wonderful moment was seeing how proud
and honored she felt to be surrounded by so much love and I know having all that attention on her didn’t hurt one bit!
