Laissez Les Bon
Temps Rouler

O
ne of my favorite classes in school was French. I loved my French
teacher, and she was one of those teachers that loved to teach. There
wasn’t anything about those classes that I didn’t enjoy. Madame used to
celebrate le Carnival with us on Mardi Gras, it just made learning that
much more fun.
I have tried to teach my boys some French throughout the years, and
even though we are not Catholic, we do sometimes celebrate Fat Tuesday. Typically it is just a small celebration at home, and we discuss the
holiday and the meaning, and even what we might give up for Lent.
This year, I decided to dress up our celebration a little more. I made a
simple rag strip garland with gold fabric for the front of the table. I wrote
our menu out on one of my old windows. I made crock pot jambalaya,
red beans and rice, mini muffeletas, and King Cake bites. I also hand
lettered Laissez les bon temps Ruler on my chalkboard. That chalkboard
is one of my favorite decorative elements in my home, and it cost very
little in time and money to make. I added a few masks I made with my
Cricut to the table with some Dollar Tree beaded necklaces, and the table
was ready for Mardi Gras!
The kids colored their masks and devo ured the jambalaya. We discussed
the holiday, and how fun it would be to go to the real Mardi Gras or Carnival when they are all old enough to fully enjoy it.
