dream job every day (until he
could switch to working as an
Xbox game tester that is…)
Invited to the same birthday
gathering, Chris noticed a girl
with “lovely legs”. After meeting
her properly, he found that she
was easy to talk to and had loads
in common with him. His friend
told him that she wasn’t ready
for a relationship right now,
but Chris was willing to play
the long game. They chatted a
lot online, and finally started to
meet up, just as friends.
After a day walking around
DevCon1 and indulging their
inner geeks together, Chris
plucked up the courage to kiss
Nicki. She panicked! It took two
weeks for her to admit she liked
him too and kiss him back. The
rest is history!
The ring story
We moved in together after 8
months and rented a house un-
til we moved into our forever
home in Saltash on our second
anniversary. It wasn’t just the
nerdy stuff we both enjoyed,
we spent days walking in the
countryside, afternoons baking
together and started dancing
lessons – something I’d always
wanted to do. I’m quite musical
but Chris isn’t, so he “leads with
his ears” and I tell him what
steps are next! He got me even
more interested in computer
games and comic books, and we
grew closer and closer.
It was on one of our walks that
Chris proposed. We had one of
our first “friend-dates” at Sal-
tram House, and it’s always
been a favourite spot. On this
particular day in September
2016, we struggled to cobble
together the £1.50 parking fee
as I’d forgotten my purse and
Chris was very unwilling to
delve into his pocket for some
reason… The car safely parked,
we were walking along the riv-
er when he stopped, went down
on one knee and asked me to
be his wife. I was complete-
ly surprised, as shown by my
response: “You really want to
marry me?”
Preparing and planning
Being a teacher, the next deci-
sion was which school holiday
to have the wedding in! We went
for February half term in 2018,
giving us plenty of time to save
up and get organised. My sisters
were my bridesmaids, along
with my best friends Kelly and
Clair. Clair I’ve known since we
