I seem to have focused on vows this column, which wasn’t my inten-
tion. There are some wonderful, inspiring wedding readings to be found
amongst the works of our favourite authors. Here are just two of them...
“What greater thing is there for two human souls
than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen
each other in all labor, to minister to each other in all sorrow,
to share with each other in all gladness,
to be one with each other in the
silent unspoken memories?”
George Eliot
“Love had a thousand shapes. There might be lovers whose gift it was to
choose out the elements of things and place them together and so, giving
them a wholeness not theirs in life, make of some scene, or meeting
of people (all now gone and separate), one of those globed compacted
things over which thought lingers, and love plays.”
To The Lighthouse, Virginia Woolf
Go back to basics, and you might just find your wedding words...

my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you–and, kindling
in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one. It was because I felt
and knew this, that I resolved to marry you.”
Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte
