The Gers is in SW France and was once
part of Gascogne. The department is
characterised by sleepy bastide villages
and rolling hills with the Pyrenees
visible to the south. It is a popular
destination for skiers who get the best
of both worlds by living in ancient
market villages while just being an hour
or so drive from the ski fields.
The area is famed for its gastronomic
delights and is best known for its
Armaganc brandy, Cote de Gascogne &
Madiran wine which is predominently a
white wine, Floc de Gascogne, a vin de
liqueur fortified by Armagac, Foie Gras
and wild mushrooms.
The area is predominantly agricultural
with the main crops being corn and
sunflowers making the fields of the area
simply stunning during the summer
