to Reality:
Behind the
Scenes of
Linkin Park’s
One More
Light Tour
By Shelby Cude
Event Safety Insights caught up with
the Lighting Designer, Celine Royer (CR), and
Lighting Crew Chief from Nitelites, Shaun
Moore (SM), to walk us through the process
of creating Linkin Park’s One More Light 2017
Tour as they made their way across European
and UK festivals and arenas—from concept
to reality— safely and
successfully.
ESI to CR: Can you explain your initial
thoughts and feelings that inspired you to
design Linkin Park’s One More Light tour?
CR: Historically Linkin Park’s has relied heavily
on video content, with the release of their lat-
est original work One More Light there was a
conscious decision by the principals to allow
the production to rely solely on lighting. The
album was an unabashed musical pivot from
their past works and the show clearly needed
to reflect that. The intent of the design was to
draw the focus to the band which required a
dynamic, evolving approach to the lighting
that could mirror the ebb and flow of the mu-
sical set.
Creative Director, Travis Detweiler, envisioned
a strong geometric shape as a way to direct
the the eye toward the band and reflect the
transformation and emotional journey of the
show. Fixture selection played purposefully to
the geometry of the truss architecture allowing
for multiple layers of lighting types within the
structure. The concept was intended to reflect
the vintage camera photographs and double
exposure effects connecting with the art that
helped to define the “One More Light” album.
ESI to CR: Can you walk us through the rig
and how you (and crew) brought your vi-
sion to life?
CR: To create the box and layers of light looks,
we used Impression Xbar20s and Impression
