Southern Blue Flag
Iris virginica
A showy native iris, the southern blue flag does well in wetter
conditions, including pond edges where it will receive a lot of sun. In the
spring, its vibrant flowers provide dashes of color to areas of moist, wet soil
and can also be grown in depressed areas that retain water.
Green Treefrog
Hyla cinerea
Kiawah Island is home to more than 20 species of amphibians. The
green tree frog is common to all parts of the Island. It is easily recognizable
with bright green coloring on the upper body, a white belly and light colored
stripe on the sides. Green tree frogs are attracted to interior lighting and, as a
result, are often seen on home windows at night.
