MICHELE EVERWINE This is a phone interview held in the early part of 2015 by Luke Torres in a question and answer format with Mrs. Everwine. Edited and transcribed by NeVaughn Brown LT: First and foremost how are you? ME: I am having a great day it is an honor to be interviewed by the Everyday Girl. LT: Where are you from? ME: I am from Bear, Delaware but I was raised in a bowling center in New Castle, Delaware and I also went to school in Wilmington, Delaware. If you’re not from Delaware there’s some really big differences there. But my summers were spent on a farm more south on my grandfather explored broken down farms then we took summers to Oak Horse road Delaware then Wildwood, NJ. LT: That’s pretty awesome. To have a little bit of home in different places. ME: Yeah Especially the bowling center that is like the other side of my family When I say I was raised in a people think “Oh no” the things that going there all the shenanigans that go on but my mom was good at making sure I was good I when I was there . I learned alot of work ethic there. That’s when I was bowling alot. But I was out of there every day by 5 o’clock. I never saw any of the shenanigans. I never saw the inside of a bowling alley past 5pm until I was 18. LT: So what do you do for a living? ME: I represent a skin care company, I do some training as well as Acting & modeling. I own Everwine Fine productions. I’m still seeing how that fits in my life. I hope to host my TV show and document my son Joshua’s journey or some kind of inspirational messages can come through. Like you said somehow I want to devote it to the community around me and give of myself that has some purpose and meaning. LT: Sounds good. What path lead you to where you are today? LT: Is it hard to be a parent and be in your position professionally? ME: I used to be in the Corporate world, I was actually a senior legal examiner for a group of attorneys. I am a retired professional athlete. I gave that up to dedicate myself to Joshua to get alot of him back and we did. I have my priorities in place and I have great balance in my life. I am the master of the curly shuffle. One thing about me when you think I am finally getting exhausted the best of me kicks in. That is a gift, endurance is definitely a gift. For me every second in life counts and I’m in ,I got this. LT: I’ve seen your hustle game and I’ve seen you grind. It’s not easy to do all that and be a parent. Is there a goal you met and set another goal? ME: (Pause) That is such a great and deep question for me . But you know God prepares us all for the our journey. But it’s “OUR” decision what road we are going to take. When I hear that question I am first a mom and advocate for my son. I taught my son dedication, drive, determination and endure. Endure that is a big key. Never give up . My biggest thing I always tell him keep dreaming and never give up on your dream. Through that journey with him he gave it back to me. I still have dedication, determination and drive because I’m teaching it to him and using it in my life. He’s such a great guy. LT: For those that don’t know about Joshua can you give them a little more insight about what happened to your son. ME: I knew in Neuro that Joshua would have ,basically, half a heart. It is called HLHS, Hypoplastic left heart syndrome it means the left heart his heart didn’t develop. There is no rhyme or reason or medical this or that . Something did not mesh and that’s just what it was going to be. Joshua did stroke severely after the second heart surgery. They basically gave us no hope I wouldn’t take no for an answer and I took the reigns to make sure he would have an amazing life. The journey we came on and what he has be given is all God given. I believe 100% in faith and I use my faith and alot of praying and he came thru. He is doing fantastic with his heart. He is going to turn 16 this April. Believe it or not he’s doing some walking and he did a balance test in his last therapy and he never had balance in his life. So you never give up , you keep going . He’s in a regular school setting and the this kid is the happiest kid you ever want to meet. I’m very proud of my son. I’m proud, grateful and I have such gratitude and appreciate this brought so much meaning to my life when you dedicate your life to someone it gives you all the gratitude in the world. That’s my family the three caber eros. ME: I never look backwards I keep going forward. I know that sounds simple but I learn from different things. I don’t look backward. I’m always like what’s next. I’m like the Hulk I’ll smash the heck out of goals and chase after them like a race horse. I’m always trying to get to the next level like in so many different area
