Sandy Foley – Flair designs EVDG: So the name of your company is Flair Designs, correct? SF: Well, I have 3 companies. Flair Designs is the costumes, masks, headpieces and events. Cameo Girl TV is my media production company. We do commercials and photoshoots and I also have a paranormal ghost investigation team, the show is called “Twilight Passages”. EVDG: I want to talk about that a little more about that but Flair Designs when and where did you start, why did you start? SF: I've always been an artist but I stayed home with the kids and as they got older I went back school.I got a job making mask for a great company near me. And , I was never one to sit all day.So I started going out on my own. My daughter is a model and I began to meet designers who would ask me to make them headpieces ,mask and costumes, wings and such. EVDG: Do you have anything currently in print now or coming up? SF: I was just made fashion editor for a Washington Polo Club Magazine. I do the shoots for the cover and several editorials for them. We also have the launch of our third episode of “Twilight Passages”coming up soon. They say if you don't make it by your fifth year in the business it gets harder . So this is the beginning of my fifth year and things are really picking up. We are Planning to have some events this year. I have been doing events since 2010. I love planning launch parties, fashion shows and movie viewings. EVDG: So you coordinate the “entire” event. SF: Yes, I do the whole thing. Locate models, coordinate events, find mua, the whole promoting so I have experience in that. I am self funded so I do everything myself. I have people that work with me and we all work together in promoting each other. I have an amazing team of models, photographers and videographers. EVDG: I completely understand. Now are you in based in Jackson, NJ? SF: I am based out of Howell, NJ EVDG: Are there any milestones for you and your company? SF: I am a stylist for Oscar Red Carpet Designer Shekhar Rahate and award Winning designer Sumbul’s Collection , I also have styled actress Marian Brock, director Erin Callahan, Allison Harvard and Bianca Golden from America’s Next Top Model. My work has been on the runways of New York Fashion Week , LA Fashion Week, Cannes Film Festival and about a dozen magazines, I am trying to remember...(She pauses) I must state I am totally impressed and her demeanor is completely humble. EVDG: Wow SF: I am still up and coming but it's been 4 years and I basically motivated once my kids grew up.Most of the work I get is through networking, everything is “Networking”, social media and word of mouth. Right now I am working on this magazine and that is a milestone because I will be the fashion editor. And that is my goal. EVDG: And Cameo Girl how did that start? SF: Cameo Girl TV ( I apologize) Actually, I have a crew, models, videographers, photographers and so on and I began interviewing models at events and one thing lead to another. Just being in the business and talking to people. Now we are accepted at the Metropolitan Museum ,we just did an article on them, The Museum of Modern Art, Animal Planet, Fashion Week Feb. 14 we will be covering as press. EVDG: In closing if there was any young lady or person looking to start there own business in fashion and entertainment is there anything you'd like to tell them. SF: ( taking a breath, a beat) In, the beginning you have to do everything on your own, you have to be careful. You can't wait for anybody to do it. You can only trust certain people because it's rough out there. Trust your Instincts, Be Humble and Love what you do!! EVDG: Thank you As we closed the interview we began to talk about the movie “ Love Like This” that I shot that lead me to her and that lead to an interesting conversation about “The everyday girl” and the process of her model casting. One of the most valuable assets I picked up on Mrs.Foley was her dedication to her family and her crew. The decision to stay with her models. In her words “ I have good girls, I honor and value my models, and my team”. That type of mentality in our business is rare.
