From tiny artisanal cafes to highend boutiques and laid-back bohemian artist enclaves near bustling microbreweries , there are two distinct neighborhoods that are especially worth exploring : Pacific Beach and Bird Rock .

AN ENDLESS SUMMER IN PACIFIC BEACH “ B-E-A-C-H = Best Escape Anyone Can Have .” These words have decorated a large black chalk-board within Pangaea Outpost , an extraordinary one-stop shop that carries products from more than 70 local merchants , which is located just one block from Pacific Beach ’ s Crystal Pier .
At Pangaea , you ’ ll find everything from jewelry , apparel and kids ’ toys to crystals , as well as local artists ’ creations . Whether
you have a bohemian style , are a world traveler or simply looking for a piece of San Diego to take home with you , Pangaea has you covered . It ’ s here that fine artist BreAnne Custodio has set up a tiny shop near the front of the store , where she displays coastal art inspired by the Hawaiian Islands and her love of the ocean .
