Eurotransplant Annual Meeting 2015
Liver meeting
Chair: X. Rogiers
Speakers: A. Frilling, H-J. Verkade, J. Dekervel
Report by: M. van Rosmalen
The meeting started with a presentation by Prof. Frilling from the
Imperial College in London regarding liver transplantations for
recipients with neuroendocrine tumors (NET). NET is the second most
common tumor of the small bowel. The ELTR data (Le Treut) have
shown that liver transplantation for metastasized NET results in a 5
year overall survival of 52%. Dr. Frilling stresses the importance to use
strict selection criteria for the inclusion, based on a.o. the
differentiation of the tumor, origin (pancreas and small bowel
originating NET have better results than NET originating from the
bronchpulmonary system), absence of carcinoid heart disease, the
resection of the primary tumor and the treatment window. She also stressed the need of novel tumor markers and a
standardized neoadjuvant/downstaging treatment concept.
Prof. Verkade from Groningen, the Netherlands, continued with the results
