What age is ideal

for learning

a second language?

Some people have trouble learning a new language because they believe they start expanding their knowledge too late, which leads to a loss of motivation. Certainly, broadening horizons is possible at any time, but studies have shown that there is an optimal age for effective learning. Let's examine the study in more detail.

Numerous studies have proven that a young age is the perfect beginning for studying an additional language. Adults can still learn  new skills, but it takes a lot longer for them to do so. According to Harvard researchers, the journey of learning should begin before the age of 10. Children tend to be more receptive to new sounds and pronunciation than adults, making it easier for them to acquire a native-like accent. Additionally, beginning this kind of education in early childhood allows one to achieve higher levels of fluency and proficiency over time.

It is true that it's more difficult for learners over the age of 18 to learn new things such as communication systems, but adults are great at explicit learning and intentionally studying. In addition, they have a longer attention span and are not easily distracted.

Although it is commonly assumed that learning a foreign language should begin in early infancy, there are several benefits to starting it during adulthood. Keep in mind that it's never too late. Nothing is holding you back, and if you truly desire something, you will eventually achieve it.
