New Experiences

“Where?”

We can, hopefully, be forgiven for that reaction when we were first approached about a project in Equatorial Guinea. Having googled it, we soon knew that the country is one of the smaller African nations, sitting on the continent’s west coast, sandwiched between Cameroon and Gabon. Among many interesting aspects of the country, it is the only Spanish speaking nation in Africa; the capital, Malabo, is on an island about an hour’s flight time from the mainland and, in the last fifteen years or so, oil exploration has given the country an economic boost of unprecedented levels.

Enter Mr Olawale Opayinka. An actuary, originally from Nigeria but with business interests on a global scale, the project, to the south of the largest city on the mainland, Bata, is his brainchild and one that he has been nurturing for more than a decade. It is only in the last year or so that the pieces have all come together for him to start to press forward with plans for a resort that embraces sustainability, equality and diversity.

With a project team led by Olawale and his wife, we are working with master planners

and architects WATG, engineering firm WSP, project managers Piccini along with a host of local and regional expertise, giving the project an authentic African influence, coupled with international flair.

Planning will continue over the coming months, with the ambition of starting construction towards the end of the year.
