FOURTH DAY
04/03/2017
Day number four of the EUROPE MEETS
EUROMED project was kicked off
under the Italian sun, with an energizer
called “peel banana”. During the daily
rounds of evaluation we discovered
that in these short four days we
already learnt a lot about each
other’s countries and cultures. For
example we learned the Arabic word
Habibi (My love), we also learned that
the Maltese word for hello (Bonju) is
very similar to the French word
(Bonjour), or that in Turkey, when
people are going on a long journey
the friends and family pour water
behind the car of those travelling, to
wish them a safe trip. The next
workshop was one about breathing
techniques. We learned about the
diaphragm, a muscle in your belly that
controls your lungs and helps you to
take deeper breaths and speak more
comfortably. We also learnt some
techniques on how to use this muscle
correctly.
In the second part of the afternoon
session we discussed the differences
between conflict and dispute. In order
to properly discuss this we had to
define what the 2 words mean to us,
which is apparently very different
depending on what language you
speak. We also discussed the roots of
deep-seated moral conflicts and
whether or not it is possible for
someone to change their values. We
came to the conclusion that “values
can change your beliefs, but beliefs
can never change your values”. After
Dinner we had the pleasure to listen to
Sabrine, who came to talk to us about
her book “Mi chiamo Sabrine” (my
name is Sabrina) and about her
personal experience as an
Italatunesian woman and second
generation immigrant. After dinner we
gathered for the final cultural evening,
where Palestine and Italy spoiled us
with their typical dishes and drinks.
Quote of the day: “We should listen to
understand and not just listen to reply.”
