Europe in the Classroom this is volume 2 of the Europe in the classroom | Page 7

Our classrooms should be areas where young people are encouraged to think, to question and to be able to critically assess perceived ”facts” .The newspaper headlines about immigration, foreigners and Europe have seen swarms of politicians and columnists of all stripes who for reasons of ‘playing to the gallery of austerity’ have conflated asylum seeker and benefit scrounger over several years.

Suddenly no one talked of refugees anymore. The term was asylum seeker or migrant. The idea was depersonalization. The plan to create the idea that Britain was the land of benefits and a free NHS for every one of the world’s hundreds of thousands of scrounging immigrants.

. It just took a photograph of a dead child to blow that lie out of the murky waters of political expediency (and moral evil). If heaven and hell exist there would be many turned away at the pearly gates and directed southwards including our current leaders, most of the press, and anyone who has anything to do with cultural purity.

The photograph of Alan Kurdi, like the best photo journalism has whipped up public opinion and put pressure on our current government to take more Syrian refugees. The stone cold fact about all this is that ‘we’ (the West aka the ‘forces of freedom’) created the problem in the first place because of total ignorance about what would happen when Assad’s regime crumbled.

.

The comments on the left, are all quotes from mainstream UK NEWSPAPERS, ALL WERE FOUND TO BE MISREPRESENTATIONS OF THE TRUTH . WITHOUT INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION THESE VIEWS WILL REMAIN UNCHALLENGED

Only INTERCULTURAL education will make a difference

Pity we didn’t learn (with Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya as obvious examples of post war mis/planning) that just because you rid a country of a murderous tyrant doesn’t mean that everyone will welcome ‘Western style’ democracy and that there won’t be a certain proportion of the population who are equally murderous of their fellow citizens. So the UK government like the rest of the ‘forces of freedom’ are stuck between Assad and Islamic State and unsure what the answer is as thousands continue to flee the fighting

BLIND ACCEPTANCE OF OUR CULTURE AND OVER- SIMPLIFICATION OF OTHER CULTURES MAKES US ALL POORER
