Snowhotel Kirkenes KIRKENES
The Snowhotel Kirkenes devotes itself to all-encompassing Arctic experiences. Located about 8 kms from Kirkenes, the hotel is surrounded by the Arctic wilderness. It has 180 huskies, reindeer graze behind the chalets and giant king crabs live at the bottom of the fjord. In the snowy winter months, the eerie northern lights illuminate the snow-covered ground with their vibrant hues. The snow and ice hotel is open every day of the year for an overnight stay. The region around Kirkenes and the Barents offers raw and beautiful Arctic landscapes, with tundra, mountains, dense pine forests and thousands of lakes. Your winter experiences include husky sledding, king crab fishing, snowshoe walking, and snowmobile driving, and the phenomenon of the northern lights. You can also learn about the Sami people and the region’ s history during WWII. There is a daily activities programme in winter from 1 December until 30 April, with snowmobiles starting from 20 December and ice fishing from 10 January. Stay in the Gamme cabin with an option to overnight in the snow and ice rooms.
NOTES There are flights from Heathrow and Gatwick via Oslo to Kirkenes airport. You may want to break the journey and have a night in Oslo – it may give you more flexibility with flights and less waiting time connecting in Oslo. The hotel collects you from Kirkenes airport. Half-board and airport transfers are included.
