This two-centre holiday combines the Atlantic city of Porto in northern Portugal and the magnficent Douro valley, which stretches for miles inland through magnificent vineyard scenery. Porto has an historic, medieval centre and picturesque scenery all around. Stroll along the banks of the River Douro, taking in the six bridges that cross the river. Here you will find many cellars that offer Port tastings and guided tours. The city is resplendent in its mix of Gothic, Romanesque and Baroque architecture. Then, after your stay in Porto collect a hire-car for the drive of about an hour into the countryside following the course of the Douro river and then the Tamego river on which our suggested hotel sits, in the town of Amarante. The town if famous for its pastries and its Vinho Verde wine. Use your car to explore the vineyards and towns of the Douro valley.
NOTES We suggest staying at the Pestana Vintage Porto or the Pestana Palacio do Freixo and the Casa de Calcada but other hotels can be offered.
