The research firm’s TV Advertising Forecasts report suggests that TV advertising spend grew by 4.4% in 2012 to $167 billion, but only 2.8% growth is forecast for 2013 as the recession bites again in several European territories. The much-touted quadrennial effect took place in 2012 (and will also occur in 2016) whereby the advertising industry was boosted by the US Presidential elections, the London Olympics and the Euro football championships. Eutelsat’s Smart LNB for DTH connected TV S BT, Virgin Media wholesale channel deal With the start of the English Premier League football season just over 48 hours away, BT and Virgin Media eventually agreed a a three year deal to ensure millions of Virgin Media TV customers could enjoy full access to the BT Sport TV channels. The agreement, which significantly boosted the number of homes that could watch BT Sport from this weekend, follows the news that more than a million UK households were already equipped to watch the channels. The wholesale deal will enable Virgin Media to offer BT Sport directly to its 3.8m TV customers. It means BT Sport 1 and 2 are now available across all the major TV platforms in the UK including cable, satellite and DTT. The channels are also accessible via broadband. The agreement will enable Virgin Media to provide BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN to their XL TV customers as part of their packages, without the need for those customers to take any action. This is similar to BT’s offer to satellite TV customers who do not have BT broadband and who can pay £12 a month for the channels via satellite or £15 a month in HD. Those satellite TV customers typically can make major savings by switching their broadband to BT in order to get BT Sport for free. Marc Watson (left), BT TV chief executive, said he was delighted to have signed a deal with Virgin Media that increased the audience for BT Sport to around three million homes overnight. “BT is rewarding its loyal customers with free sport and it is great to see Virgin Media immediately making BT Sport available to so many of their customers,” he added. “BT has made a large investment in BT Sport and this is an important commercial agreement for us that recognises the excellence of the channels. We are keen to make our services as widely available as possible and to do so via wholesale arrangements. We are doing this with Sport.” atellite operator Eutelsat has confirmed the successful completion of the first phase of development of a ‘smart LNB’ for a Direct-toHome antenna that opens the door for broadcasters to operate their own ecosystem of linear television and connected TV services directly by satellite. The ‘smart LNB’ should be available in 2014. Designed by Eutelsat, the more efficiently serve their customer base and diversify the range and nature of applications offered, from direct customer support to audience measurement and enhanced security,” said Jean-François LeprinceRinguet, Eutelsat’s chief commercial officer. “This new technology can benefit satellite homes with limited options for the return link as well as mature ?&?WG2v?W&R?Ff?&??W&F?'2&R6VV???rF?'V??B?B7W7F??6??6RF?&V7B&V?F???6????( ?%B?2&Wv&F??r?G2????7W7F??W'2v?F?g&VR7?'B?( ?"UU$??TD???( ?6?'B??.( ??2?Wr?vV?W&F???V?V7G&???2fVVB6???V7FVBF???FV??v?F??V?&VFFVBG&?6?GFW"f?"??FW&7F?fR?6F???27V6?2?&%Eb???W'f?Wr?6?6???WGv?&???r?W'6???7V'67&?F?????vV?V?B?B?fR6??r'F?6?F?????Bv???G&?6f?&??72?&?WBF?&V7GF????R6FV??FR6W'f?6W2'?V?&??r'&?F67FW'2?B?Ff?&??W&F?'2F?&??B??FW&7F?fRf?VR?FFVB6W'f?6W2??F?F?V?"'&?F67B?Ff?&?2?6?&7V?fV?F??rf?WvW"FWV?FV?7???FW'&W7G&??f??VB?B??&??R?WGv?&?2?F??2?Wr&?GV7B?VWG2??7&V6??r6??7V?W"W?V7FF???F???vR?B??FW&7Bv?F?6??FV?B?B?6?&W&W2F?Rw&?V?Bf?"?6???WF???6???R?B???RWF??F????6F???2?( ?'V??F??r??WWFV?6N( ?2G&6?&V6?&Bf?"????fF???F?B'&?FV?2F?R66?R?B6???V7F?f?G??b6FV??FR6W'f?6W2?F?R( ?6?'B??.( ?v???V?&?R'&?F67B??W'2F???v?F?F?V?"7V'67&?&W"&6R?( ?gV??6??F?&?Rv?F?W??7F??r6??7V?W"6FV??FRWV??V?B?F?R( ?6?'B??.( ??2&6VB???V?7F?F&G2?Ed"?3"???WF2???B??v??Vff?6?V?B&?F?6??2FWfV??VB'?WWFV?6Bf?"F?R6???V7F???????6??&??VBv?F??F??6VBW6R?b6FV??FR7V7G'V????V?F??Rg&WVV?7?&?G2?2??R????2??&6VBF?????Bv????6?V?&?R6??FV?BF?&Rf?WvVB????&??RFWf?6W2??F?R???R?6?'G???W2?F&?WG2??F?2??F?R&??b??b?6??6WB?Bf?'7B&?F?G?W2?fR?&VG?&VV?FW7FVB?fW"WWFV?6B6FV??FW2?B&R??r&VG?f?"f?FF???v?F??Ff?&??W&F?'2?B'F?W'2?WWFV?6B?2?V?6?VBF?R??GW7G&??6F???&?6W72v?F?F?Rf?'7B??Vf7GW&W'2v?F?F?R?&?V7F?fRF?BF??2?Wr&?GV7Bv???&RF?FVB'?gW'F?W"?&Gv&R??Vf7GW&W'2?B&V6??R'B?bgWGW&RFV?Wf?6?????g&7G'V7GW&R??
