Cellnex buys
NOS tower
business
Wireless telecommunications
and broadcasting
infrastructure operator
Cellnex, is acquiring NOS
Towering from Portuguese
mobile operator NOS.
The transaction initially
involves some 2,000
4 EUROMEDIA
telecommunications sites.
This is a portfolio of
telecommunication towers
and rooftop antennas, located
in urban (40%), suburban and
rural (60%) areas throughout
the country.
The transaction represents
an initial payment of circa
€375m, in
addition to
expansion
Capex of up to
circa €175m
related to up
to 400 new
sites, and
other agreed
initiatives
over the next six years. The
acquisition will be financed
with available cash.
Under the agreement,
and founder of Alchimie. “The OTT channel,
which is available on a wide range of digital
platforms, is carefully curated and allows
armchair sports addicts to access some of
the best existing sports shows as well as new
content specifically
created for
Unbeaten viewers.”
The first
platform to
distribute Unbeaten
is Alchimie owned
OTT platform
TVPlayer in the
UK. Alchimie UK’s
managing director,
Barry Llewellyn,
said: “TVPlayer
is delighted to
be the inaugural
launch platform
for Unbeaten.
This channel is an
excellent addition to our line-up of vertical
content channels, dedicated to the various
passions of our diverse audiences. It is
interesting timing for the launch of this
channel, given that live sports events are
currently on hiatus around the world, but
the enormous appetite of fans for sports
content remains totally intact and Unbeaten
is perfectly positioned with a great collection
of news updates and video magazine formats
both now and when live sport returns to
action.”
Cellnex and NOS have signed
an initial 15-year contract,
extendible by successive
additional 15-year periods,
under which NOS will
continue to use the sites that
Cellnex will operate, locating
its voice and data signal
transmission equipment
there.
Once these assets are fully
integrated and the new sites
rolled out, the estimated
additional EBITDA generated
for the Group is circa €50m.
Commenting on the
deal, Cellnex CEO Tobias
Martinez underlined the
capacity of Cellnex teams,
both at corporate level and
in Portugal, to continue
progressing, even at a
particularly complex and
sensitive scenario as the one
currently being faced.
“The agreement reached
with NOS reinforces the
nature and the neutral and
independent operator profile
that characterises the Cellnex
model,” he suggested.
“Following the very recent
agreement to acquire
OMTEL, also in Portugal, this
transaction exemplifies the
sense of being an operator
which, precisely due to its
neutral and independent
nature, can consolidate
long-term collaboration
projects with the various
MNOs and telecom
operators who access our
infrastructures to roll out
their telecommunications
networks.”
