During our summer internship program in spring 2013, students were indeed spread far and wide. Over half the group interned under members of European Parliament in Brussels. The remaining half were scattered around Freiburg at various academic institutions and research centers. Student Nandini Rathi was placed at the Mediathek at the University of Freiburg, where she worked on editing film, taking photos and experimenting with a video camera. Her idea to document the experiences of fellow interns came merely from an open-ended assignment from her boss, who urged her to work on something that she wanted to be invested in. She then began interviewing the interns from the European Union Program in Freiburg, some who were placed at the Carl-Schurz-Haus, or German-American institute, and another at the Max-Planck-Institut. She even had the chance to interview Nancy Kenyon, the Assistant Vice President for Academic Systems at Institute for IES Abroad, who was visiting the center this summer. She also sat down with IES Abroad EU Center Director Ullrich Lohrmann and Academic Dean Almut Meyer zu Schwabedissen to hear their perspectives about the internship program. Here you can see a couple small clips that we put together based on her raw cuts and clips.
